Meet the Board


Mr. Barry L. Swanson 
Board President


Barry Swanson is a graduate of Southwestern Central School, JCC, and the FBI National Academy Association.  He has been a resident of Bemus Point since 1990.  He is married to Barbara Swanson and they have two daughters, Mikaela and Emily.

Barry is a retired Police Captain who now is employed with SUNY Community College as a Coordinator of Campus Safety & Security.  Barry has been a member of the Bemus Point Board of Education since 2013 and is also a member of the NYS & Percheron Horse Association of America, SUNY Title IX Coordinators Association, SUNY Community College Public Safety Officers & Directors, Chautauqua County Association of Chief’s of Police and the FBI National Academy Association.

Mr. Brian W. Walen
Board Vice President



Brian Whalen is a graduate of Jamestown High School, Jamestown Community College and also attended SUNY Brockport. He has been a resident of Bemus Point since 1994. Brian is married to Kathy Whalen and they have three children, Taylor, Justin and Kamarin.
 
Brian is vice president of sales for Hope’s Windows, Inc. and is a member of several organizations including The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and its Committee E54 (Homeland Security) and Committee F33 (Physical Barriers), The American Correctional Association and The American Institute of Architects.

Brian has served on the Bemus Point Board of Education since 2016.

 Mr. Shawn M Hricko

Shawn is married to Faith Hricko and is the father of two boys, Paxton and Brody.  Shawn graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1994.  He attended Penn State from 1994-1999 for his BS in Mechanical Engineering, then returned to Penn State for his Masters and graduated in 2001.

Shawn has been a resident of Bemus Point since 2013.  He works at Cummins Inc., Jamestown Engine Plant, where is an Assistant Chief Engineer. 

Shawn is a member of the Penn State Behrend Industry Advisory Board (IAB) for the Industrial Engineering Program and the Chautauqua Leadership Network.

Dr. Margaret L. Spence

 

Margaret is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary College where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in History; and the University of Pittsburgh where she obtained her Master of Arts in Teaching and her Ph.D. in Education.  She has been a summer resident of Bemus Point since 2004 and a year-round resident since November of 2016.

Margaret is married to William Spence, now deceased, and they have two children, William (Madison) Spence and Margaret Spence-Hondru.  Margaret is a retired Director of Special Education with the Regional Resource Center in Ohio. 

Margaret is a member of the YMCA, the Monticello Foundation, Thomas Jefferson Foundation and the Association for Curriculum, and Supervision Fi Delta Kappa.  


Mrs. Bethany G. Seastrum


 

Bethany is married to Dan Seastrum and is a stay at home mother of three girls, Sky, Anna and Madilyn. 

Bethany graduated from Cattaraugus-Little Valley High School and has been a resident of Bemus Point since 2007.  

Bethany is Co-President of the Bemus Area Youth Soccer Organization (BAYSO).  She has been a Bemus Point Central School District Board Member since 2014 where she also serves on the public relations and IT committees.

Mrs. Tina M. Hall


Tina is married to Patrick Hall and is a stay at home mother of three boys, Kyle (who is 19 and in the US Navy), Tyler (who is 16 and a Junior at Maple Grove) and Corey (who is 14 and in 8th grade at Maple Grove).  

Tina graduated from Forestville Central School in 1991 and has been a resident of Bemus Point since 2000.  She has an Associate’s Degree in Psychology from Jamestown Community College.  Tina graduated from Fredonia State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in both Forensic Psychology and Sociology.  She is involved with the all-sports boosters and football boosters.  Tina is active at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dunkirk, NY. 

Tina has served on the Bemus Point School Board since 2014.   


Mr. Benjamin M. Gerring

Benjamin is married to Jill Gerring and is the father of Orry, Gracie, Ruby and Bode Gerring.  Ben graduated from Maple Grove High School and attended the State University of New York at Fredonia.  

Ben has been a lifelong resident of Bemus Point.  He is the owner and operator of A Merry Heart Farm and Ger-Land LLC.  
 
Ben is a member of Ops Overwatch, the American Wagyu Association, and is a Chaplain for the Jamestown Police Department.
