District Superintendent
Mr. Michael Mansfield

Micheal Mansfield

It is my pleasure to serve as the Superintendent for the Bemus Point Central School District.  It is a great privilege to lead a district with a rich tradition of student achievement.  Bemus Point annually ranks among the region’s top schools in measures of academic achievement.  The Maple Grove Red Dragons are known across the state for their long history of athletic success.  We have exceptional programs at all levels in the arts and music, including award winning musical productions.

I began my tenure in the summer of 2013 and I have enjoyed the support of a progressive Board of Education and of our school community throughout. Together, along with the dedication and hard work of our district staff, we continue to build, adapt and innovate to create an exceptional experience for our students.  By working collaboratively to continuously improve our student experience, we have created exciting opportunities for our students.

Together we have updated our facilities to create a safer, more inviting environment.  We have either added spaces or renovated existing spaces to create opportunities for students to create, explore their interests and develop important skills and knowledge.  Examples include Makerspace rooms in the elementary and middle/high school buildings, new science classrooms at the middle/high school, and renovated art and technology facilities at the middle/high school. We have also been able to advance the technology available to our students. We have implemented a reliable wireless network throughout the district which in turn has enabled us to implement a sustainable 1 to 1 Chromebook program for our students. Students at the elementary level are assigned a Chromebook for use during the school day.  Students in grades 6-12 are provided a Chromebook which they may utilize both in and out of school. Our teaching staff continues to develop opportunities to effectively integrate technology into our curriculum and instructional practices. Our academic program continues to evolve and adapt to the ever changing needs of our students.  In addition to a strong core program, we are pleased with our progress with regards to several specific initiatives:

  • We have implemented a STEM (STEAM) program for all students, Pre-Kindergarten through 12.  Our elementary STEM program has received state-wide recognition for their work.

  • We have increased our Advanced Placement (AP) offerings from a single course in 2013-14 to 11 AP course offerings for the 2019-20 school year.

  • We have expanded our Spanish program to the elementary level for the 2019-20 school year, providing exposure to Spanish for our students in grades four and five.  We are also pleased to offer students the opportunity to earn the New York State Seal of Biliteracy for Spanish beginning with the 2019-20 school year.

All of this is possible due to the ongoing support demonstrated by the Bemus Point community.  The approval of capital projects, along with consistent support for our annual budgets, has positioned the District to continue our pursuit of a personalized learning experience for every Bemus Point student.  It is our mission to be the destination school district in our region and beyond.  There is much more to our district and our community than can be detailed in this space.  I invite you to browse our website to learn more about us, and to see why we feel we are an excellent destination to live, work and go to school!
