Dubois SonjaDear Bemus Point Families,

My name is Sonja DuBois and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Bemus Point Elementary School. I am honored to have been selected to join the Bemus Point Central School Team, which is known far and wide for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to students. Over the past 18 years, I have worked as a teacher, dean of students and administrator, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. I will spend a lot of time with your students, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community.

I have had the tremendous honor to work in Clymer Central School District for the last 9 years.  I have worked with amazing, dedicated teachers and leaders during this time and am extremely proud of the growth which was made as a team.  I am especially proud of the relationships that I was able to foster and develop over the years with the students, staff and wonderful parents of the Clymer community. I am excited about the continued growth and development that awaits me here at Bemus Point Central School District.

Professionally, I possess over 18 years of experience in the field of education and am licensed as an Elementary Teacher, Reading Recovery Specialist and School Principal. Motivated by my positive experiences in school, I received my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Florida Atlantic University and spent 9 years teaching first and second grade in South Florida. Based on my desire to further my profession, I achieved National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist, an experience which carved my desire to pursue an administrative certification.  I pursued my Master of Education degree in School Administration at American College of Education.

On a personal level,  I am an idea girl, artist, former scuba diver, wife, and mother to two softball slinging girls, both who attend school at Southwestern Central School District.  Siri is 10 and Madeleine is 13 and are both active participants on travel softball and soccer teams, keeping us all quite busy and happy.  My husband and I grew up in South Jersey where much of our family still resides and where we take many family trips.  We have embraced the Western New York environment and enjoy skiing in the winter and summers on the lake.

Once again, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to bring all that I have experienced and learned with me to your wonderful community. I look forward to getting to know you and your students.  I have an open door policy and welcome your input and ideas at any time.  I’m looking forward to meeting each of you as we start this new and exciting year together!

Educationally Yours,

Sonja DuBois
