Superintendant Mr. Michael Mansfield
The Bemus Point Central School District is currently educating about 740 students in two schools: Bemus Point Elementary (Pre-K - 5) and Maple Grove Junior/Senior High School (6-12). We are located in Chautauqua County, in the town of Ellery on the shores of beautiful Chautauqua Lake.
It is a great privilege to lead a district with a rich tradition of student achievement. Bemus Point annually ranks among the region’s top schools in measures of academic achievement. The Maple Grove Red Dragons are known across the state for their long history of athletic success. We have exceptional programs at all levels in the arts and music, including award winning musical productions.
In recent years we have made impressive gains in our district’s use of technology. We now have cutting edge technology in many of our classrooms. We have upgraded our wireless infrastructure in both of our school buildings enabling the district to initiate a 1:1 Chromebook initiative. As of September 2016 we have a 1:1 Chromebook ratio in grades 3-12. Members of our outstanding teaching staff are providing regional leadership in the integration of technology to improve student engagement and learning. Our teachers are learning more every day about how to get this technology into the hands of our students so that they can create, access and analyze information, and work collaboratively. When we facilitate our students working collaboratively, solving problems, and thinking critically, they are developing skills they will need throughout their lives.
The current Capital Facilities Project was approved by the community in December 2013. The project includes much needed renovations and maintenance in both of our school buildings, as well as, our bus garage and athletic fields. In addition to renovation and maintenance items, the project includes security upgrades at all three buildings, with new secure entrances at both school buildings and significant exterior work at the junior/senior high school including parking lot reconstruction. An addition to the junior/senior high school will include new science classrooms, as well as, a new gym. Renovations to the existing gym will result in a STEAM multi-purpose classroom and a fitness center which will be open to community members. Construction is scheduled to be completed on all phases of the project in December of 2017.
All of this is possible due to the solid support consistently demonstrated by the Bemus Point community. The approval of the capital project, along with consistent support for our annual budgets, has positioned the District to continue our pursuit of a personalized learning experience for every Bemus Point student.
I firmly believe we have the capacity with excellent, hard working teachers and students to be the top school district in our region and beyond. Highly effective organizations are “customer led” and committed to continuous improvement and growth. To that end, I welcome the opportunity to hear your ideas, concerns and thoughts regarding our performance and our future.
