MG ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

The Bemus Point Central School District wants all students to reach their highest potential.  For this reason, we put the following procedures in place:

GRADES 6, 7 & 8:

Students in grades 6, 7 & 8 will be expected to stay after school both Tuesday and Thursday if they have a grade(s) below 70%.

  • Students must have their academic assistance cards signed by their classroom teachers by 2:30 on Friday.

  • Students will be in jeopardy of receiving a detention and/or becoming ineligible if they do not return their academic card on more than 2 occasions during a marking period.

  • If a student has a grade below 65%, they will receive their first warning.  They will still be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities.

  • When a student receives a second warning, they will be ineligible for one week (Grade 7 & 8 only).

GRADES 9, 10 & 11:

Students in grades 9-11 will be expected to stay after school both Tuesday and Thursday if they have grades below a 70%.

  • When a student receives a second warning, they will be ineligible for one week.

GRADE 12:

Students in grade 12 will be expected to monitor their academic progress.  If a student has a grade below 65% for 2 weeks in a row, they will be ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities.  Students will not receive academic assistance cards and/or warnings.

In order for a student to become eligible (Grades 7-12):

*The student has to have a Passing Grade.

OR

*The student has to complete the following during their first week of ineligibility:

  • Stay after both Tuesday and Thursday.

  • Complete every homework assignment on time and well/passing.

  • Must attend class on a regular basis.

  • Must have turned in signed card (grades 7- 11).

*If the student meets the above guidelines and is still failing the course, their eligibility will be considered.  If a student is failing two courses, they will remain ineligible.

*If students think they have been placed on academic ineligibility in error, they should contact their building principal.

*Parents are encouraged to contact your child’s teacher or Guidance Counselor if you continue to see failing grades.  We want your child to be successful both academically and in their extra-curricular activities.

Regardless of academic status, all students are able to try out for any School Activity.

Students and parents are encouraged to contact Orrissa Greenwald at 386-2375 for their PowerSchool password.
